12 week ultrasound

Today I had an ultrasound to look at the baby's spinal cord. Sweet Pea was wiggling, punching, and kicking the entire time! It was so cool and cute to watch, especially because I can't feel anything yet. I know I'm pregnant and growing, but seeing the baby move and the heart beat was so reassuring. Sweet Pea was completely noncompliant with the procedure. The ultrasound technician needed Sweet Pea to keep his/her hands out of his/her mouth and instead Sweet Pea sucked his/her thumb the entire time and kept the other hand on the other side of his/her head as well! The ultrasound took over 1 1/2 hours...we had to keep taking breaks to get Sweet Pea to move. The technician had me walk around the room, run in place, jump, and do jumping jacks so Sweet Pea would change positions! She also tilted me with my head down at a 45-degree angle to get a better picture. It was rediculous! Due to all of the up and down off the table and the length of the procedure, I also had blue ultrasound goop all over me and my work clothes! Thank goodness it dries clear. It was a riot! Unfortunately, this one was scheduled quickly to fit it in as a 1st trimester screening, so Eric wasn't able to "enjoy" all the fun. Sweet Pea is already giving mommy a hard time...but the adorable wiggling to watch on the screen, cute thumb sucking, and knowledge that my baby is the lowest risk possible for chromosomal issues was well worth it! I also got to see the little feet, legs, arms, tummy, etc... Here are a few photos. Barely any came out clear...each time the technician tried to take a picture, Sweet Pea bounced. The first photo is of the baby's head and stomach (legs were moving too quickly to make the photo shoot).
The second is of the baby sucking his/her right thumb. There is a part of my tummy blocking part of the baby's head, but you can kind of see the thumb sucking, right?
The last one is a close up of the head and neck.
It's so neat to me how much Sweet Pea looks like a human baby now and not a tadpole like the first photo just 3 weeks ago. Amazing how these little guys/gals grow! Our next ultrasound is not until mid-late August...will hopefully look even more baby-like then!
